Blue Mountains

Just two hours west of Sydney, the Blue Mountains National Park is a World Heritage-listed site – a spectacular area of dramatic canyons and caves, sheer-cliffed valleys, pretty stone and timber towns, world-class guest houses, romantic hideaways and crisp fresh air. They are a range of sandstone geological structures and are not as the name suggests a range of mountains but rather a series of cliffs surrounding a plateau with rugged eroded gorges of up to 760 meters depth.

The Blue Mountains is the home of Echo Point, where one will find the spectacular Three Sisters rock formations – one of the most photographed sites in New South Wales. At Katoomba, visitors can take a ride on the Scenic Railway or Skyway, a cable car that traverses the Katoomba Falls gorge 200m above the floor of the valley.

From easy cliff top walks with panoramic views, to challenging treks deep into valleys, there is also wide range of bush walks available; for example a 7km walk to the Red Hand Cave, where one can see amazing Aboriginal hand stencils on the walls. A variety of antique stores, cafes, fine dining restaurants and art galleries are sprinkled throughout Katoomba, Leura, Blackheath and Springwood.
