Apollo Bay

Apollo Bay, heart of the Great Ocean Road, is a holiday resort, fishing and farming village, a favorite holiday destination. Based on the edge of the Otway Ranges, it is a fantastic place to stay and an ideal base from which to explore the magnificent coast, waterfalls and rain forests.

This part of the world is regarded by many as ‘Paradise by the Sea‘. Discover the town’s wide, crescent-shaped sandy swimming beach, backdrop of rolling green Otway hills, relaxed lifestyle, waterfalls, national and state parks and abundant wildlife in the nearby ranges.

Like many places along the Great Ocean Road, the beach is a focus for activity all year round. Swim in the clear water, sea kayak with local seals, learn to surf, or horse ride along the beach at sunset. For golfers, there's an excellent harbor-side course.

Head to Marriners Lookout Road for panoramic views over the town and coast. Another favorite lookout is Cape Patton, east of Apollo Bay near Wye River.

The lush rain forests within the Otways National Park and the Otways State Forest, are home to a "who's who" of Australian native wildlife. Beside giant trees and huge tree ferns, the forests are alive with all manner of life, from carnivorous snails to kangaroos.
