Gippsland's Lakes District consists of a series of shallow lakes and narrow channels covering more than 400 square kilometers – the largest inland waterway system in Australia.
Many of the lakes fall within the boundaries of The Lakes National Park. The main three are Lake King, Lake Victoria and Lake Wellington – typically gentle, safe and clean. Strictly speaking, the lakes are interconnected tidal lagoons, separated from the ocean by Ninety Mile Beach, a seemingly endless strip of sand stretching to the horizon, backed by dunes up to 38 meters high. An area which attracts many holiday makers.
Gippsland is one of the few unique and diverse regions in Australia. It comprises of snow fields, wilderness, rain forests, beaches, industrialized areas, farm land and much much more.
With Australia's number one highway running through the center of Gippsland, access to the country has never been easier. From a central location day trips and tours can lead to an abundance of different events and activities that can be tried, or spend some time to bask in the glories of what the area has to offer. |
