	1st day: Windhoek

		Arrival at the airport.

Hotel Heinitzburg - a Relais et Chateaux Hotel		Accommodation: A fort overlooking Windhoek Built in 1914, the fort was commissioned by Count Schwerin for his wife to be, Margarethe von Heinitz. Today the fort is a hotel with a beautiful view of Windhoek. Only a two minute drive from the centre of the city, it offers a combination of 19th century charm and modern comforts. In 1996 a new wing was added in the same style as the old fort with 16 beautiful en-suite rooms. The rooms are comfortable and luxurious with 4-poster beds, Italian ceramic tiles and hand-made furniture. The kitchen is renowned for its excellent cuisine. Lutheran Church overlooking Windhoek		The approach to the airport will give you a first impression of the vast and desolate landscape of Namibia. Windhoek itself seems more like a town than a capital city. The importance of Windhoek will be understood only on the return journey through Namibia, as the vastness and emptiness of the country becomes evident. Only then will Windhoek's status as a world city be revealed. The city is characterised by a mixture of old German colonial architecture and modern functional buildings. Places of interest include the landmark Lutheran Church (Christuskirche) and the old Germany fort built in 1890. There is yet another side to Windhoek: Kattutura ("where nobody wants to live"), a township of Windhoek. Even though it is not one of the worst slums, it is a reminder that Namibia is both a first and a third World country. This contrast will be apparent throughout the journey around the country.

2nd day: Waterberg

		North Central Namibia Distance: 320km Time: 4:00h

		Accommodation: A historical pioneer farm The guest farm is located at the foot of Waterberg Mountain among thick bush. Giant bamboo and other tropical vegetation attract countless bird species to the area. More than 200 species have been catalogued. Drives and walks to the Otjosongombe gorge and the Waterberg Plateau can be organised from the guest farm. Outstanding meals are prepared in the farm kitchen. Waterberg - table mountain on the edge of the Kalahari		The Waterberg plateau reflects a red glow during sunsets that can be observed from many kilometres away. It is the most important sanctuary for endangered animals in Namibia. White and black rhino, buffalo and shy antelope species roam on top of the nearly inaccessible plateau of the mountain. 200 bird species and a great variety of reptiles and amphibians are also part of this biosphere of Waterberg. Game drives are offered, but the best way to discover the area is on foot. A network of walking trails is laid out, offering an opportunity to take short walks or up to 3-day hikes across this huge plateau. A cemetery is situated at the foot of the mountain with numerous graves of soldiers, killed during the clashes between the Herero tribe and the German army. The Hereros fled to the north-eastern area of Namibia, a very arid part of the country.

4th day: Etosha Park-Süd

		Age-old Animal sanctuary Distance: 300km Time: 3:30h

		Accommodation: Okaukuejo Camp Okaukuejo is located at the southern entrance to the park. It is the best and quietest of all the Etosha camps. A waterhole in close proximity to the camp attracts game, especially in the winter months. Game can be viewed during the night as permanent floodlights illuminate the waterhole. Water holes - meeting places for animals		In Southern Africa water plays a vital role in the survival of animals. If it rains in the game reserves, water is available at most water holes and rivers and animals are able to spread out and manage to stay out of one another's way. The opposite happens in the semi-arid areas and drier months. The surface water is restricted to fewer holes and pools and attracts game from far and wide. Now animals have to interact that otherwise choose not do so. Pecking orders are exercised and tolerance of other species becomes easier as they are forced to drink side by side. The Etosha Park has many such water holes, some are located close to rest camps. Here one can easily spend as much as half a day (or night) to observe elephant mothers protecting their little ones from attacks by hyena, or zebra that are chased away by lion, etc, ...attacks by hyena, or zebra that are chased away by lion, etc, ..

5th day: Etosha Park-Ost

		Etosha Park Distance: 150km Time: 4:00h

Protecting one another at a water hole		The 5,000 Km² Park is a part of the Kalahari trough, a huge inland lake area where water has nowhere to go. The Kunene River used to feed this lake but changed its course around 80,000 years ago, turning it into a salt-pan. The lake is mostly dry, unless exceptional rains occur. Temperatures are quite pleasant in the winter months between April and September but the summer months are usually extremely hot. To the south of the Pan, where the camps are situated, waterholes attract game in numbers. The park has approximately 1,500 elephants, 300 lions, black rhinos, leopards, and many antelope species. Although the park is reasonably large, its area is not adequate for the elephants, as they travel thousands of kilometres in their lifetime and keep knocking down the fences. There are plans to increase the size of the park, but as yet no specific decision has been taken.

7th day: Bagani

		Wilderness and African villages Distance: 630km Time: 6:30h

Bird paradise the riverview from the deck		Accommodation: Divava Okavango Lodge Namibia's hidden wildlife paradise in the Caprivi where time stands still. Divava Lodge (formally known as Suclabo Okavango Lodge) is nestled amongst majestic trees on the banks of the Okavango River a few hundred metres from Popa Falls. Fondly referred to by the locals as Paradishi Ghomumbiru (Little Paradise). Divava Lodge offers an exquisite view over the Okavango River with excellent opportunities for bird watching. The large garden contains many bird species and crocodile and hippopotamus can be frequently seen along the river. The lodge is situated close to the Mahango Game Reserve, which is celebrated for it's abundance of game species such as elephant, buffalo, sable and roan antelope, bushbuck, reedbuck and tsessebe. 		The Caprivi Strip derived its name from the German Chancellor Graf von Caprivi who obtained the corridor in the German colonial era. He wanted to make a path-way to link the German colonies: Southwest Africa and Central Africa. It is 460km long and only 32km wide in the west. The vegetation is lush and tropical, a contrast to the remainder of Namibia, which is arid, and has abundant water (malaria area!). The Okovango that flows through the strip in the west and ends in a swamp in Botswana as well as the Zambezi that forms the border along Zambia both have extended swamps and rainforests along the riverbanks. 80% of the rain falls between December and March. The humidity rises to over 70% with temperatures around 35 degrees. The winter months therefore are better suited for travelling to this region. 60% of the Namibian elephant and buffalo herds are at home in the Caprivi Strip as well as numerous antelope and lions that roam the area, disregarding fences

8th day: Mudumu National Park

		the Namibian Caprivi Distance: 250km Time: 3:00h

		Accommodation: Camp Kwando Camp Kwando is situated on the Kwando River in the Caprivi. They have different accommodations, Island Tents which are built on poles with a terrace overlooking the river. These Bungalows will even allow you to do some fishing from the deck. Then they have Bungalows that are built on poles on higher ground, made of wood canvas and thatched roofs, allowing for an incredible view on the Botswana plains. 		The Mudumu National Park is a park in Namibia, created in 1990 out of 1009.59 square kilometers. The Kwando River runs through the Park and offers a true African wilderness experience. In contrast to the rest of Namibia, the area is lush with riverine forest, marshes, dense savannah and mopane woodland. Many animals can be found in the park including sitatunga, red lechwe, as well as elephants, buffalo, kudu, impala, roan antelope, and Burchell's zebra. Its waterways are inhabited by spotted-necked otter, hippo, tiger fish, and crocodile. Unusually for a National Park there has one private lodge within its boundaries - Lianshulu Lodge - which offers guided walks, nature drives, boating and bird watching. South of Lianshulu the river breaks up into a labyrinth of channels to form the Linyati Swamp.

10th day: Chobe-Kasane

		To Kasane and the Chobe Park Distance: 380km Time: 4:30h

Chobe has the largest elephant herds in the world		This 12,000 km park is situated to the east of Kasane in Botswana. The dirt roads in the park are only suitable for 4x4 vehicles. The best way to view game in the reserve is by boat or game drive, which can be booked at the camps inside the park. To the north Chobe National Park borders on the Chobe River, which regularly floods large parts of the reserve. There is an abundance of game in Chobe. Among other animals, the park is home to lions, cheetah, giraffes, many antelope species, warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, baboons and monkeys. It is especially renowned for the enormous elephant herds that roam the planes and migrate to the river in the evenings to bathe and drink. There is also an abundance of bird life in Chobe National Park.

12th day: Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls		The Victoria Falls are approximately 1.6 km wide with a maximum drop of 128 m. They are situated in the Zambezi River on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. They are the widest and most spectacular falls in the world, formed as the Zambezi River drops from a relatively flat plain into a narrow chasm about 120 m wide in a fracture zone in the earth's crust. Numerous islets at the crest of the falls divide the water to form a series of falls. The thick mist and huge roar produced are perceptible from a distance of about 40km, and locals named it Mosi-oa-Tunya ("smoke that thunders"). A 198 m long bridge spans the Boiling Pot, the beginning of a winding gorge of about 80 km in length through which the river flows below the falls. David Livingstone, the British explorer, visited the falls in 1855 and named them after Queen Victoria. The falls are part of two national parks.
