In the heart of Paris: hotel near the Louvre
In the heart of Paris: hotel near the Louvre

Accommodation: A small inn near the Louvre
This enchanting little hotel is situated in the heart of Paris, in the shadow of the Louvre. It is so close to St. Germain l'Auxerrois that you can hear the hymns from the former "King's Church" and see the Gothic windows from your bedroom. In the cellar there is an old printing press that was used to print illegal leaflets during the French Revolution. It is said that the reception area was once the Café Momus (a debating club of the revolutionaries) and it was there that Puccini allowed parts of his opera "La Boheme" to be played. Breakfast, true to Parisian custom, is served in your suite. The hotel is air conditioned. Sophie Aulnette has managed the hotel for the past 10 years and personally attends to her guests' comfort. Tickets to local museums and other attractions can be purchased at a shop near the hotel.

Ivy-covered: A chateau near Tournus
Ivy-covered: A chateau near Tournus

Accommodation: A castle near Tournus
With its ivy-covered stone walls and gates covered with climbing roses, this inn almost seems like a mythical castle. It is situated in the middle of a meadow encircled by a leafy forest. The six guest rooms are individually decorated and the knight's hall is used as the guest lounge. The Roggen family, originally from Switzerland, purchased and lovingly restored the estate. Its location is perfect for exploring southern Burgundy. Tournus with its Romanesque church is nearby, as is Cluny, famous for its Abbey founded in 909. The mysticism and tranquillity of the region has always appealed to religious orders, and Taizé, home to the most important 20th century religious community, is only a short distance away. Thousands of young people from all over the world meet here every year. An excursion to Taizé is worthwhile for reasons other than participating in the daily prayers.

Leafy garden: A guesthouse in Venasque

Accommodation: A guesthouse in Venasque
The guesthouse is situated high above the Rhone Valley in Venasque, a fortified city once used by the Popes of Avignon as a refuge. The location is an ideal base for exploring the wilderness of the Provence Alpine foothills between Mont Ventoux and the mountain forests of Luberon. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the building is bright and friendly - thanks not only to the architecture but to the personality of Josy, the host. The garden is a quiet, pleasant place where guests can take in the sun or relax in the shade.

Peaceful atmosphere: Auberge in Manosque

An auberge near Manosque
The auberge is situated in a huge garden just one kilometre from Moustiers, a charming little village on the backdrop of high mountains. Breakfast is excellent - and not just compared to the standard French breakfast. The host is a passionate collector of antiques, old watches, and historic home appliances, so you will find such items all around the premises. The tranquil atmosphere is remarkable at this hotel, which is an ideal starting point for excursions to the Grand Canyon.

Sea and mountain views: A villa above Vence

Accommodation: A villa above Vence
The 200-year-old villa tucked away in the hills above Vence is an absolute gem. Guests are captivated by its superb setting, stunning views, attractive bedrooms, lovely swimming pool, and, most of all, by its charming hostess, Kristin. Kristin was born in East Berlin, moving to Burgundy after she married her French husband, Fredric. They both dreamed of living near Vence and opening a bed and breakfast, so they bought this large villa to use both as their own home and as a place to welcome guests. Each of the three bedrooms has its own private entrance opening onto a flagstone terrace. The rooms are comfortable but not huge, and each has a large window with a splendid view of the sea and mountains. Each is similar in decor except for the color scheme, which differs from room to room. Two junior suites are also available.
