General Information
Germany's third largest state was created in 1949 through the merger of the historical states of Baden, Württemberg and Hohenzollern. Located in the far southwest corner of Germany, Baden-Württemberg borders with Switzerland to the south and France to the west. Much of the border is formed by the Rhine River. The capital is Stuttgart, known worldwide as the location of the Mercedes Benz headquarters.
Tourism
Much like neighboring Bavaria, with which Baden-Württemberg shares the historical region of Swabia, the state is known for its pristine nature and impressive landscapes. Although the Swabian Alb and Swabian Forest near Stuttgart offer a captivating mixture of rolling green hills and lush valleys, the Black Forest and Lake Constance are by far the state's most popular tourist destinations. |
