Our Personalised Tours of Germany

Our excellent knowledge of our tour areas such as the Rhineland and Bavaria allows us to select smaller, intimate Gasthofs, lodges and guesthouses that are run by their owners. A traditional German welcome, reduced costs, high quality, genuine hospitality and the owner’s willingness to help and give advice are determining factors in our choice of accommodation for our clients.

Your Germany tour or itinerary is special to you and to us. Moving accommodation each night on holiday is not the best way to enjoy the real Germany. We like to arrange your itinerary so that you stay at least a couple of nights in each guesthouse. This will give you the opportunity to travel at leisure and explore your chosen region more thoroughly. You will be able to gain better insight into the wines of Rheingau or indulge in the romance of Heidelberg through full day excursions if you wish. It is your holiday, let us tailor it to you.

We recommend allowing at least three weeks for holidays in Europe that include more than one country. If less time is available we suggest that you focus on one country such as Germany or even a particular region within Germany. This will enable you to travel at leisure and save you from spending most of your holiday inside your vehicle. In our experience less time on the road is more enjoyable.

During high season many of the small and personally hosted Gasthofs in Germany are fully booked several weeks in advance. Arranging an itinerary with us prior to travel will give you the peace of mind of knowing your destination each day and where you will be spending the night. This will save you much trouble while travelling in Germany and give you more time to concentrate on planning your daily activities and enjoying your holiday.

We arrange your Germany vacation according to your specifications. All our itineraries are tailor-made and personalised to suit your needs. We can change the routes, the number of persons travelling, the time schedule, the standard of accommodation or the type of vehicle. The tour may commence on any date from any location such as Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich or Hamburg.

What we do not offer: “We did it all in two weeks”

We are a private limited company (Ltd.) located near Cologne, Germany, with branch offices in South Africa and New Zealand. We began as a special tour operator for South Africa in 1998 but soon extended our programme to Germany and other countries, encouraged by the positive feedback from our clients. "Umfulana" means "stream" or "little river" in Zulu and is the literal translation of the German surname of one of the company's directors, Martin Bach, who began designing and selling tailor-made, self-drive itineraries while living in South Africa.
