Pristine Nature
Germany's sixth largest state in terms of area is one of its least densely populated regions. Often compared with the Lake District in England, the "State of 1,000 Lakes" was long popular as a tourist destination for East Germans before reunification in 1990 opened the area to West Germans as well. The state bordering on the Baltic Sea and Poland in the far northeast corner of Germany is little known among foreign tourists despite the pristine nature that can be found in its numerous national parks and nature reserves. |
