Germany Tours: Rhineland-Palatinate

While the actual name of the state is little known outside Germany, the Rhine Valley is one of the most popular destinations on our Germany tours.

General Information

Like many of the federal states in Germany, Rhineland-Palatinate (German: Rheinland-Pfalz) was created by the occupying forces after World War II. The city of Mainz is the capital of the state situated on the western edge of Germany along the borders to France, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Geography

The most prominent geographical feature of Rhineland-Palatinate is the Rhine River, specifically the Middle Rhine Valley, considered the most scenic section of the river and therefore the most popular among tourists.

Although overshadowed by the nearby Rhine, the Moselle is considered by many travellers to be equally as beautiful as its larger sister but less touristy. The River Moselle thus remains an attractive, off-the-beaten-path region waiting to be discovered.
