Bavaria Tours: Rothenburg

The incredibly preserved medieval village is a must for tours of Bavaria.

Time seems to have stood still in this quaint little city huddled in a bend of the Tauber River (hence the official name: Rothenburg ob der Tauber). The medieval buildings that line the cobblestone streets of the old town are still encircled by the original wall. The Renaissance town hall building dominates the main market square, where the town's two main streets, Herrngasse and Schmiedgasse, meet. Visitors can enjoy a good view of the town from the top of the tower or stroll along the top of the city walls. A popular attraction in addition to the architectural highlights is the torture museum featuring medieval torture devices.
