Customized Tours of Great Britain: Our Concept

Our strong, personal knowledge of our tour destinations such as the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands allows us to select smaller, intimate B&Bs and lodges that are run by their owners. Traditional British hospitality, reduced costs, high quality and the owner’s willingness to help and provide advice on activities in their vicinity are determining factors in our choice of accommodations for our clients.

Your Great Britain holiday is special to you and to us. Changing accommodations each night during your vacation is not the best way to discover the real Great Britain. We try to arrange your itinerary so that you will stay at least a couple of nights at each location. This will enable you to travel at leisure and explore your chosen region more thoroughly. You learn much more about the headless horsemen of Dartmoor or indulge in the mystery of Loch Ness through full day excursions. It is your vacation, let us tailor it to your needs and interests.

We recommend allowing at least 10 days for tours of Great Britain that include more than one region. If less time is available we suggest that you focus on a particular area such as Cornwall or the Isle of Wright. This will allow you to tour at leisure and ensure that you do not spend most of your vacation inside your vehicle. In our experience less time on the road is more enjoyable.

During high season many of the small and personally hosted B&Bs in Great Britain are fully booked weeks or even months in advance. Arranging your itinerary with us prior to departure will give you the peace of mind of knowing your route and final destination each day and where you will be spending the night. This will save you much stress while travelling in Great Britain and give you the leisure to focus on planning your activities and enjoying your tour.

We prepare your Great Britain itinerary according to your specifications. All our tours are customized to your needs. We can change the destinations or rotes, the number of people travelling, the time schedule, the standard of accommodation or the type of vehicle. The trip may begin on any date from any location such as London, Edinburgh or anywhere in between.

What we do not offer: “We did it all in two weeks”

We are a private limited company (Ltd.) located near Cologne, Germany, with branch offices in South Africa and New Zealand. We began as a small tour operator for German travellers to South Africa in 1998 but soon extended our programme to Europe and New Zealand, encouraged by the positive feedback from our clients. "Umfulana" means "stream" or "little river" in Zulu and is the literal translation of the German surname of one of the company's directors, Martin Bach, who began marketing custom-made, self-guided tours while living in South Africa.
