1st day: Bath

		White Horse Hills Distance 130 miles Travel time: 2:30 h more ... You will leave the Greater London near Reading and enter the hills of southern England. Time should be allowed for a stop at Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world. Build on a chalk cliff overlooking the Thames, the palace has been used as the summer residence of British monarchs for over 900 years. Near Swindon a detour to the stone circles of Avebury is also worthwhile. Older than Stonehenge, the Neolithic monuments arranged in circles date back some 5,000 years.

Accommodation: A former parsonage
For many years the 14th century building situated in a meadow along the River Avon was the Luckington rectory. Hosts John and Maril have now converted the structure into a charming guesthouse. After their arrival guests are treated to tea and home-made cake at 5 o'clock. The elegant lounge, the royal blue dining room and the spacious rooms featuring 19th century antique furniture are all decorated in country house style. Behind the house are an enchanting garden surrounded by a stone wall, a tennis court and a heated swimming pool.

3rd day: South Whales

		Bristol Channel Distance: 120 miles Travel time: 3:00 h more ... You will travel westwards along the Bristol Channel. A detour to the Gower Peninsula at Swansea is worthwhile. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, much of the peninsula is only accessible on foot.

Accommodation: A Welsh farmhouse
The country house dating back to 1810 was in a dilapidated state before being fully restored by its current owners and converted into a 5-star accommodation. Since then the guesthouse has won several awards for its high standards. It is set in 12 acres of open countryside overlooking the wooded hills and dales of Carmarthenshire. The hosts also run a shelter for old or mistreated animals. An excellent restaurant is located in the vicinity.

5th day: Malmesbury

		Cardigan Bay Distance: 80 miles Travel time: 3:00 h more ... You will cross the Cambrian Mountains to West Wales and continue northwards along the scenic Cardigan Bay. Aberystwyth is worth a stop to enjoy the breathtaking views of the bay from the pier.

Ideal base for exploring Snowdonia: Farmhouse in Tal-y-llyn

Since it was renovated and converted into a guesthouse, this 19th century farmhouse has been considered one of the best-run inns in Snowdonia. It is situated in an idyllic Welsh valley called Tal-y-llyn. The lake of the same name is visible behind gently rolling hills. The rooms are decorated with antiques and works of art. 8th day: Chester

		North Wales Distance: 60 miles Travel time: 2:00 h more ... The route leads northeastwards through the highlands of North Wales. Ruthin, a historical town in the Vale of Clwyd, is worth a visit.

10th day: Oxford

		Birmingham, Coventry Distance: 180 miles Travel time: 3:00 h more ... The route leads through the thickly populated Birmingham conurbation in the West Midlands. The city of Coventry is worth a detour. It was almost entirely destroyed by German air raids during WW II, sustaining more damage than any other British city. The rebuilding of St. Michael's Cathedral alongside the ruins of the old structure is regarded as a masterpiece of modern architecture.

Accommodation: A country house in Oxfordshire
The enchanting country house was built in the 15th century, initially serving as a cottage for farm workers before being converted into a three-storey manor house. Creaking spiral staircases, dark beamed ceilings and nook fireplaces lend the property a typical English charm - a style which also seems to appeal to ghosts. While no spirits have been sighted for at least ten years, some telepathic guests have recently claimed to "sense" them. The rooms are decorated with antique furniture from the family's own collection. Stratford on Avon and Oxford are within easy reach, as are Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle.
