Accommodation: A country villa near Cetona The remote palazzo sits on a hill at the foot of the Monte Cetona amid a typical rolling Tuscan landscape of vineyards and cypress trees. The large garden contains a swimming pool for a refreshing dip on hot days. The owner, an art historian from Germany, runs an art studio and offers painting classes. The two cooks, Patrizia und Elisa, cultivate traditional regional cuisine made of fresh ingredients. Guests are welcome to come into the kitchen and see how it's done. Meals are taken at a long table like those found in typical Italian homes. |

Accommodation: A farm near Gambassi Terme South of Florence is a 150 acre farm used for wine and olive production. The main building is a former convent dating back to the 12th century that was gradually converted into a traditional Tuscan farmhouse. The bedrooms are spacious suites; breakfast is served in the rooms. Bicycles can be rented for excursions to San Gimagnano or the Chianti vineyards. Afterwards the guests can relax in the private swimming pool. A path leads through the grounds to a fortified tower built by the Florentines to defend the property against the citizens of Volterra. |

Accommodation: A palazzo in Pietrasanta The noble palazzo sits in the centre of Pietrasanta, a Renaissance village between Lucca and the quarries of Carrara, where Michelangelo obtained the marble used in many of his famous works, such as the statue of David in Florence. Once the residence of a rich merchant, the palazzo reflects the wealth and splendor of a town which for centuries has been considered one of the world's best sources of marble. Not surprisingly, the bathrooms in the residence are made of Carrara marble, as are many floors and the fireplace in the main living room. The stately building is surrounding by an Italian garden with symmetrical flower beds. In a small enclave protected by ivy-covered walls is a swimming pool with a sun deck. The two English-speaking hosts provide an excellent breakfast and can offer any number of suggestions for day trips and activities, such as wine-tasting sessions. Marina die Pietrasanta, a famous seaside resort with excellent beaches, is just a 10-minute drive away. |
