Our exceptional knowledge of our tour destinations such as Tuscany and Sicily allows us to select quaint inns, intimate B&Bs and exquisite palazzos that are run by their owners. Traditional Italian hospitality, reduced costs, high quality, sincere hospitality and the owner’s willingness to help and provide advice are key factors in our choice of accommodations for our clients.

Your Italy vacation is special to you and to us. Changing hotels each night on holiday is not the best way to enjoy the authentic Italy. We like to set up your itinerary so that you stay at least a couple of nights in each inn. This will enable you to travel at leisure and explore your chosen destination more thoroughly. You will be able to learn more about the wines of Tuscany or indulge in the romance of Venice by travelling at a slower pace. It is your holiday, let us tailor it to you.

We recommend setting aside at least two weeks for holidays in Italy that include more than one region. If less time is available we suggest that you focus on a particular province such as Cinque Terre or Tuscany, or specific cities like Venice, Florence and Rome. This will enable you to travel at leisure without spending most of your Italy tour inside your car. In our experience less time on the road is more enjoyable.

During high season many of the small, personally hosted inns in Italy are fully booked several weeks in advance. Arranging a personal itinerary with us before departure will give you the peace of mind of knowing your destination each day and where you will be staying that night. This will save you much stress while touring Italy and give you more time to focus on planning your daily activities and enjoying your vacation.

We arrange your Italy holiday according to your specifications. All our itineraries are tailor-made and customized to suit your needs. We can change the routes, the number of persons in the party, the time schedule, the standard of accommodation or the type of vehicle. The tour can begin on any date from any location such as Venice, Rome or Florence or Milan.

What we do not offer: “We did it all in two weeks”

We are a private limited company (Ltd.) located near Cologne, Germany, with branch offices in South Africa and New Zealand. We began as a special tour operator for South Africa in 1998 but soon extended our programme to Italy and other countries, encouraged by the positive feedback from our clients. "Umfulana" means "stream" or "little river" in Zulu and is the literal translation of the German surname of one of the company's directors, Martin Bach, who began designing and selling tailor-made, self-drive itineraries while living in South Africa.
