1st day: Amalfi Coast

You will travel through a heavily populated region straight towards Mount Vesuvius, the vulcano that buried the Roman City of Pompeii 2,000 years ago. From the Sorrentine Peninsula you will have a splendid view across the gulf to Naples.

Unforgettable: The view from a casa in Positano

Accommodation: A 17th century villa
The historical villa is situated in upper Positano, high above the clear blue waters of the Amalfi Coast. All 20 rooms are well-equipped with an en-suite bathroom, private terrace with magnificent seaviews, telephone, air-conditioning and mini-bar. Guests can also soak up the Positano sun on two large panoramic-view terraces during the spring and summer seasons. During the winter months the hotel is fully heated. 4th day: Cilento

Over 1,000 years old: A fortress in Giungano

An ancient fortress in Giungano
Originally founded as a fortress 1,000 years ago by Saracen pirates, today Giungano is a peaceful town located in a national park at the foot of the Alburni Mountains. The old fortress, which has been turned into an original guesthouse, crowns the centre of town with its old towers and battlements. The estate is surrounded by terraced gardens with grapevines and fruit trees. The rooms are decorated with pieces of antique furniture. The surrounding area offers plenty of destinations for excursions: the Greek ruins in Paestum are close by, as are several medieval castles. Or guests can relax in the hotel's swimming pool with Jacuzzi.

6th day: Tropea

		Southwest Italy Distance: 370 km Travel time: 4:00 h more ... At Lagonegro you will leave Campania and enter Calabria. Near Cosenza the route passes along the foot of the Sila Mountains.

9th day: Trulli

		To the Adriatic Sea Distance: 80 km Travel time: 2:30 h more ... At about the half-way point you will reach Gióia del Colle, known for its heavily fortified castle built by the German Emperor Frederick II in 1230.

Apulia at its best: A masseria near Ostuni

Accommodation: A masseria near Ostuni
"Masserias" are large estates in southern Italy and Sicily that used to employ hundreds of day labourers or serfs and were largely self-sufficient operations. One particularly prosperous masseria with a stately manor house sits between Ostuni and Fassano. Armando and Rosalba Balestrazzi acquired the somewhat neglected estate several years ago, completely restored the property with great love and devotion and opened the doors to guests. The masseria is now an organic farm producing wine, olive oil, jams and herbs. This fresh produce goes into the meals prepared in the outstanding restaurant, referred to by Armando as "Grandmother's kitchen", where diners can experience Apulian cuisine at its absolute best. A former manager in the food industry, Armando is a lively and entertaining host. The nearest beach is just 5 km away (free shuttle service provided).

12th day: Castel del Monte

		Along the Adriatic coast Distance: 120 km Travel time: 2:30 h more ... The main attraction along the route is Trani, one of the most picturesque cities in Apulia. The tower of the 12th century basilica soars high above the sea.

Organic farm in a historical setting: An estate in Pulia

Accommodation: A country estate in Apulia
The organic farm features olive trees, vineyards, almond orchards and cherry orchards. All produce is organically grown. The main building on the farm was built in the 19th century and was recently renovated with care taken to preserve the original structure. The hotel has nine guest rooms, each featuring an original fireplace. Solar panels heat the rooms and the water that supplies the bathrooms. The manor house with its forty chimneys, the surrounding round-roof houses (called "trulli"), and a cave close to the main house illustrate the long history of the people who have lived and worked at this enchanting place with its panoramic view. From the new swimming pool opened on the grounds in 2009 guests can relax and enjoy the views across the endless vistas of Apulia.
