Accommodation: Marlin Lodge

4 Nights, All meals
Built on elevated wooden stilts, the Lodge overlooks a tranquil Flamingo bay. Formed hundreds of thousands of years ago, the Bazaruto Archipelago is a result of mass sand deposits by the waters of the Limpopo River, and is now host to over 2000 fish species and over a hundred coral species. From sand dunes to freshwater lakes and acacia woodlands, Benguerua Island is a diverse ecological gem. While nature's finest marine-life swim veiled below the surface of opaque waters, upward the skies are alighted by beautiful birdlife. Marlin Lodge is settled peacefully within its environment like an oasis in perfect harmony with its unscathed surroundings.

Benguera Island was originally named "Santa Antonio" by Portuguese explorers and was later named "Benguera" after a local Tribal chief. The island is approximately 11km in length and 5,5km wide and lays 14km offshore from the mainland and the town of Vilanculos. It offers privacy as an island destination, and is protected by the lush surroundings.
The Marlin Lodge chalets are set just above the beach, sea facing, and only a few steps from the white sands of flamingo bay beach. Each has its own veranda, which is also a perfect location for a private dinner for two. The inside of the chalets is constructed with sophisticated designed finishes, including slated flooring, plastered surfaces and soft lighting.

Marlin Lodge offers exceptional cuisine by our first-class chefs, with sumptuous culinary flavours that will tempt you and delight you. The cookery is characteristic of seafood-plentiful Mozambique, infused with the Asian and Portuguese influence of its past. Whether dining in the dining room, on the beach under the stars, or privately-for-two on your terrace or under your beach cazebo, Marlin Lodge chefs will leave a lasting impression.

Details: Bazaruto Archipelago
One of the most popular tourist areas in Mozambique is the Bazaruto Archipelago consisting of four islands - Bazaruto, Benguerra, Margaruque and Santa Carolina. They are situated just off the mainland, but 470 miles from Maputo, and are accessible by dhow from the town of Vilanculos or by private air charter. Activities on the islands revolve around every form of motorized or non-motorized water sports including water skiing, parasailing, and wind surfing. Deep sea fishing expeditions, and rock, surf and fly fishing are also on offer. The Mozambique Channel is well known for its trophy sized marlin, kingfish and sailfish. Mako, wahoo, serra, yellowfin tunny and queenfish are also regularly caught. The archipelago's coral reefs and clear waters are a magnet for snorkelling and scuba diving fans, where night and wreck dives are also offered. And the rugged terrain of the archipelago combined with its natural beauty, make it an ideal place for hikers. The Bazaruto Archipelago is a bird watchers paradise, with 164 different species identified. Benguerra Island alone is home to 115 different types including the rare crab plover, the olive bee eater, green coucal and narina troga. The varying habitats throughout Mozambique account for its incredible wealth of bird life with more than 900 species recorded. Marine life includes the most spectacular of marine mammals, the dugong, and several types of dolphin. Humpback whales can be seen during the summer months. Land animals include the small suni and duiker antelope, which have recently been re-introduced to the island.
