Rehoboth

Rehoboth has a unique history. In the Cape of Good Hope white Boers produced children by San women – by adultery, rape or even marriage. These children were called bastards, were discriminated and simply called "Swartbooi", "Witbooi" or "Kleinbooi", depending on their appearance. The "Bastards" developed into a nation, who eventually called themselves "Basters", even with a certain degree of pride. As they had no future in the Cape dominated by Whites, they migrated to the hardly known North, settling about 2000 km further north where they founded the town of Rehoboth. They speak their own language, based on Dutch. Even today the most common surnames in the town are "Swartbooi", "Witbooi" and "Kleinbooi".

Rehoboth is a town in central Namibia. Located 90 kilometers south of the Namibian capital Windhoek, Rehoboth lies on a high elevation plateau with sparse rainfall, but visitors enjoy the several natural hot-water springs.
