Damaraland and the Kaokoveld are one of the most scenic areas in Namibia, prehistoric water courses with open plains and grassland, massive granite koppies and distant mountains create the Damaraland landscape. Game species include desert elephant, black rhino, ostrich and springbok. The area to the west of the Etosha Park is extremely sparsely populated and only accessible by 4x4 vehicle. The tracks often lead through riverbeds and are sometimes difficult to find. The area is home to the Himba tribe, one of the original tribes in Southern Africa.
If you want to visit the Himba tribe, it is better to join a safari tour led by one of the lodges in the adjacent area. |
