The Canterbury New Zealand region incorporates Christchurch, Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs, Timaru, Lake Tekapo, Methven and Darfield.
This region also provided the perfect scenery for a part of the Lord of the Rings movie. A large open area, which also made birds' view photography possible, was needed for the pursuit of the Ring Spirits on Arwen. It was found in the vicinity of Tarras at the heart of South Island. Here is also the home of King Theoden and the Riders of Rohan. Edoras was built on a rock of 400 m near Mount Pott, surrounded by snow-covered mountains. The views from Mount Pott, near Methwen, are impressive. Near Twizel are the Fields of Pelennor. |
