This magnificently restored 1880's Victorian villa, overlooks a park, the waterfront and the quaint maritime village of Devonport and is just a two minute stroll to the ferry which takes one quickly to central Auckland and the surrounding islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The seven guest rooms have recently been redecorated by Judy, the owner, and each and every one has its own special style. Furnishings are a mix of New Zealand and English antiques. Guest will find complimentary specialty teas, coffees, handmade chocolates, port, sherry and lavender bags in all guest rooms. Breakfast is served, in the wonderful open and sunny, spacious breakfast room - overlooking the secluded tropical garden. In summer, guests can breakfast alfresco on the verandah. Even the menu is beautifully presented and sets the scene for a superb breakfast, starting with fresh orange juice, home-made muesli and tropical fruits, or eggs Devonport - scrambled with herbs and smoked salmon and served on a toasted English muffin. A range of very good restaurants and shops, as well as Devenport's beach and Mount Victoria, which offers amazing 360-degree view over Auckland and the harbour, are only a short walk away.

Ferry from Wellington to Picton
The Interislander Ferry is one of the best ways to travel between New Zealand's North and South Islands. The 83-kilometer journey between Wellington in the North and Picton in the South is regarded as one of the world's great scenic cruises - lasting three hours. Departing from Lambton Harbour in Wellington the Interislander Ferry pass the rugged southern coastline of the North Island. Between the two islands lies Cook Strait, which offers a stunning view of the South Island's Kaikoura Ranges and sometimes the opportunity to spot wildlife such as whales, dolphins and seabirds. As the ferry enters the majestic Marlborough Sounds, one is offered a breath-taking introduction to the South Island. The Sounds are a haven of tree-lined coves, inlets and crystal clear water. The journey ends at the picturesque township of Picton, which provides a base for exploring the many walks and vineyards which the Marlborough region is renowned for. Off the coast of Kaikoura village is a marine environment so rich in nutrients that it attracts some of the most magnificent creatures with which we share our planet. Among them the giant Sperm Whale which can grow up to 20 metres in length and has the largest brain of any animal alive. Whalewatch will take one on a breathtaking adventure - right into the world of the whales to meet them face to face. Lucky ones may also be able to see migratory Humpback Whales (June & July), Orca (summer months), New Zealand's own tiny Hectors dolphin, the high spirited displays of the Dusky dolphins, New Zealand Fur seals or the Royal Albatross. As long as weather and sea conditions permit, WhaleWatch offer up to 5 sailings daily, and operate all year round. One should to allow 3.5 hours for the WhaleWatch experience. Between 2 and 2.5 hours are spent on the water, with the extra hour covering report time and transport to and from the boat. Whale Watch Kaikoura Limited is a community trust owned by the Maori people of Kaikoura in partnership with their affiliated tribal people, the Ngai Tahu. Overnight Cruise on Doubtful Sound
Known for its wilderness, peacefulness and wildllife, Doubtful Sound is the second largest of the 14 fiords in Fiordland National Park and it is three times longer and 10 times larger than Milford Sound. Following a short cruise across beautiful Lake Manapouri and a coach trip over Wilmot Pass, one will board the vessel at Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound. The vessel, purpose built for cruising in the fiords, offers spacious viewing decks, a comfortable dining saloon, an observation lounge and private cabins with ensuite bathrooms. Apart from the stunning scenery, fur seals and bottlenose dolphins can often be admired, and at times, rare penguins can be observed. There is also time to kayak around the shoreline or go exploring in the tender craft with a nature guide. As the shadows lengthen, the crew will drop anchor at a favourite mooring for the night. A delicious evening buffet meal will then be served in the spacious dining saloon. The tour starts at Pearl Harbour in Manapouri just after midday, and finishes 24 hours later at the same place.
