Cosy Cottage full of Old-World Charm
Cosy Cottage full of Old-World Charm

Cottage on Otago Peninsula
This self-contained cottage was built at the turn of the century as a fisherman's retreat and is right on the Otago Harbour – 25 minutes away from the city of Dunedin. A picket fence encloses a mature native bush garden. Full of old-world charm, this cosy cottage with original matai floors reflects the nostalgia of a bygone era (no TV!) whilst fresh linen, a comfortable bed and modern conveniences ensure a relaxing stay. The generous hamper breakfasts are a specialty, which is delivered during the previous afternoon by Lutz and Julz, the hosts, who live nearby on the peninsula. Evening meals may be self-catered or taken at one of the fine Peninsula restaurants. The Peninsula is a wildlife treasure with its penguin, albatross and seal colonies which are unique and can be visited any time of the year. Larnach castle is well worth a visit and is just a five-minute drive away.

B&B overlooking Tasman Bay
Situated half way between the city of Nelson and Abel Tasman National Park this B&B is an ideal base to explore the Nelson Region. The house and homestay guest accommodation were designed so that the central focus is the guest lounge. Here one can enjoy the stunning views over beautiful gardens to the blue seas of Tasman Bay and the distant Abel Tasman coastline. Behind the house, rolling hills and the peaks of Kahurangi National Park beckon. The guest suite in the main house was designed with comfort in mind and opens directly onto a patio, where guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast. In addition, there are two modern self-contained cottages, which offer great views and lots of privacy, as breakfast provisions are supplied the night before. Hosts Marion & Peter are former (third generation) orchardists who returned to the family land after careers in the aviation and hospitality industries. During the years the surrounding region has diversified. Amongst the few remaining apple and pear orchards are wineries, vineyards, olive groves and pockets of farmland. Good restaurants are nearby and the city of Nelson is half an hour away.

An Unforgettable Experience: New Zealand Outdoor Bath

idyllic: Garden Cottage overlooking the Sea

Homestay B&B in a Remote Bay
Situated in a secluded bay in a truly remote part of the Marlborough Sounds, the home of Roger & Jude can only be reached via a scenic but winding 1.5 hour long drive through bush, forest and farmland. The welcoming hosts are spoiling their guests with wonderful meals with fresh seafood, homegrown organic veggies and fruit. The two private cottages for guests are simple but comfortable, peaceful and sunny. Although remote, there are lots of things to do: Boat trips to d'Urville Island, charter boats to see the Sounds, and the mail boat from French Pass which runs once a week. Also, there is a private beach and guests can walk around the coastline and around the hills, or go out in the dinghy with their hosts to catch some fresh fish for dinner. As a special treat, all guests can enjoy a private bath outside under the sun or stars, overlooking the beach, heated by fire, prepared by Roger or Jude. This accommodation is an ideal place to take a break while travelling around the country.

Please note: The standard of accommodation is different to other accommodation we use in that although it is very comfortable, it is not luxurious. There are two simple and charming separate cottages for guests. The one close to the house has a spacious bedroom and a balcony upstairs, and a private bathroom with an eco-composting-toilet and a shower downstairs. The one below the house is nestled in the garden, overlooking the beach and the sea. It is more romantic but it has an outside eco-composting-toilet and a private bathroom in the main house. Jude & Roger treat their guests as if they were friends, which makes this place very special for many of our clients. "Lord of the Rings" stars, Orlando Bloom and Elijah Woods, have both stayed there and both loved it! However, this kind of accommodation does not suit everybody. Please let us know whether you would like us to include it into your itinerary proposal or whether prefer to stay at a more conventional place.
