The Waterfront and Table Mountain		The city of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula alone warrant a trip to South Africa. It is the oldest city in South Africa, commander Jan van Riebeek having landed at Cape Town in 1652. From there the Boers migrated further into the country. In 1814 the Dutch East India Company ceded the land to the British Crown. The British influence increased from then on, and today Cape Town is probably the most liberal city in South Africa. This is where the abolishment of apartheid began. You will probably not find a more beautiful setting for any city in the world. Overlooking the city is Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain often covered with a tablecloth of clouds. To the east the vineyards produce wines of world-class quality, and at the southern point, known as the Cape of Good Hope, a nature conservation area protects the fauna and flora. There one can take secluded walking trails which provide a view of both oceans. Bathers are advised to swim in the warmer waters of the Mozambique current on the eastern side, which is approximately 2° warmer than the Atlantic Ocean with its current stemming from the Antarctic.

4th day: Swellendam

unrealistic light over the Overberg		Swellendam is the third oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town and Stellenbosch. The town has some excellent examples of Cape Dutch architecture. The Drostdy, which served as the court and residence for the magistrate for more than 100 years up to 1846, is now an excellent museum. The small town mainly relies on agriculture and Merino sheep farming. Today the sheep of Swellendam produce the bulk of South Af-rica's high-quality wool. Golden wheatfields are also a common feature of the landscape. A day trip to De Hoop Nature Reserve is well worth the time. The reserve protects the typical Fynbos Flora.

6th day: Hermanus

Whale watchers paradise		Hermanus is a beautiful little fishing village between Cape Town and Cape Agulhas, the southern most point of Africa. A trip to this village is especially rewarding during the whale season between June and November. There is no place in the world better suited to viewing whales and dolphins from the shore.

Game in the Waterberg Mountains		The region known as the Waterberg has been described as one of South Africa's best kept secrets. It is situated in the north-west of South Africa, in the Limpopo Province, stretches 150 kilometres in a long arc from Thabazimbi in the West, Modimolle (Nylstroom) in the centre, to Mokopane (Potgietersrus) in the east. Vaalwater is the central village of the area. The Waterberg region is in the heart of the Bushveld, with low mountain ranges and escarpments. The Bushveld vegetation is dominated by different veld types, which are characteristic in mountainous savanna areas. The name Waterberg refers to the fact that the mountains in the area serve as water reservoirs for the arid region. The area has been inhabited over hundreds of thousand years and is also one of the most important San Rock Art areas in South Africa. Small wonder the area is known as one of the country's premier wildlife areas. The Waterberg is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with more than 300 bird species to be spotted. The exceptional abundance of wildlife species, together with the mosaic of scenic landscape and the fascinating cultural heritage, has led to many nature-based tourism destinations that can be explored.
