Accommodation: Selborne Hotel
Selborne Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate is a stately manor house surrounded by indigenous coastal forest in a tranquil setting close to the warm Indian Ocean and near Durban. A private beach club is just a few sandy footsteps away.

Selborne was created in 1985 when Denis Barker was inspired to turn his dairy farm into the first golf estate in South Africa. His intention was clear: to preserve the rich flora and fauna surrounding the manor house. Today, this sprawling Victorian mansion is the centrepiece of a family run retreat. Woven around the natural rock and contours and verdant coastal forest, the estate is home to duiker, mongoose, bushbuck and over 160 bird species. Selborne offers unparalleled natural beauty and tranquillity. The discreet yet attentive staff strive to create a "home away from home" in Africa, pampering guests with the personal service only a family-run hotel can offer.

Selborne Golf Course
The South African equivalent of Augusta National in Georgia, USA., is one of the most attractive courses in South Africa. It is a beautiful and charming estate course where the houses don't interfere with play. The course with its nice mixture of short and long holes feels very rural. There is lots of water but the hazards are not extremely confrontational. The Indian Ocean makes as a spectacular backdrop. Selbourne has developed an excellent reputation among the overseas golfing fraternity both for it's level of challenge and high standard of maintenance.

The Wild Coast Sun Hotel

Accommodation: Wild Coast Sun Hotel
The Wild Coast Sun is set on one of the most unspoiled beaches in Southern Africa, on 750 hectares of natural bush between the Umtamvuna and Mzamba rivers, overlooking the Indian Ocean. The family-style hotel has tastefully decorated rooms and suites overlooking the Indian Ocean or the rugged beauty of the championship golf course and equipped with every possible convenience. The warm mushroom, cream and taupe textures, counter-balanced by rich gold, rust and earthy reds, reflect the warm welcome of the Wild Coast Sun.

The resort is located mere metres away from the Indian Ocean. The white powdered beaches, incredible surfing and balmy climate are enough reasons to come here. Yet there's more: Wild Coast Sun offers entertainment, water-sports, one of the best championship golf courses in South Africa, a glittering casino and much more. The immediate vicinity offers magnificent walks along the beach, hikes in the rugged regions, local arts and crafts and deep sea fishing and scuba diving. It is an intimate resort experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Wild Coast Golf Course
The Wild Coast Sun championship golf course is not only one of the most beautiful courses in Africa, it is one of the toughest as well. It hosts a number of high-profile tournaments every year. Its 19th hole is a friendly country club atop a small hill, with a balcony on three sides from which the other golfers or the sunset over the water can be observed. There is also a well-stocked pro shop. With the Indian Ocean as a backdrop, the beautiful scenery provides some compensation when shots go awry, and go awry they certainly will do.

Durban Country Clu b
Just to stand on the clubhouse veranda and look out over the first fairway and the pristine 18th green to the left with its undulating fairway behind, picking up the breath of the sea as it drifts in from your right, will make you lose all sense of reality and time. In all golfers' guides Durban Country Club rates as one of the finest courses in the world, let alone Africa, or even South Africa. Rated as the second best course in the Southern Hemisphere by Golf International's panel, the quality of the course can hardly be denied.

The high standards are underlined by the 462 m par 5 third hole - the most popular, most photographed, and often called the best third hole in the world, or the best par 5 in golf. No wonder Durban Country Club has hosted more South African Open Championships (14) than any other course.

The facility lies adjacent to the beach of the Indian Ocean, separated only by a freeway linking the Northern suburbs with the city. It features an ideal mix of tall trees, thick bush, steep slopes, rolling fairways that sometimes resemble waves, and a few very clever tee positions, with the penalising bunkers lying in wait.

Durban Country Club Beachwood
This course is part of Durban Country Club, situated parallel to the indian ocean. It is a very good test of golf skills with a relatively narrow design. The corse was built by Percy Gilbert Stiebel in indigenous woodland around a mangrove swamp, a narrow barrier between the Indian Ocean and houses that flow along a ridge overlooking the sea. It was considered an ideal location for a golf course at the time. Thanks to the Country Club, the mangrove swamp has been preserved as one of the last of its kind on the KwaZulu-Natal coast. The property supports an amazing variety of bird life.
