The game reserve is located in Maputaland, in the north-east of Kwazulu Natal and is approximately 40,000 hectare in extent. The terrain is surprisingly varied and full of contrast. It stretches from the Lebombo Mountains in the west over savanna landscape to rolling hills to swampland, and has a variety of indigenous forests.
Of special interest are the massive sycamore fig forest trees. Over 600 bird species have been documented, and a great number of hippopotamus and crocodile, all of which can be viewed from specially designed hides and lookout points. Amongst others, both the black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, leopard, wildebeest and many antelope can be viewed in Mkuzi game reserve. |
