The Waterberg is a 150 km long mountain ridge that rises dramatically above the bushveld plains. With no major roads and only one town (Vaalwater) within a 15,000 sq. km area, the region is almost totally devoid of humans.
Free of the pollution caused by forestry and industry, it is one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the country. Although smaller than Kruger, it offers a more varied terrain and is malaria-free. Several private game reserves have been established in the area, where major game has now resettled.
Situated in the magnificent Waterberg Mountain Range of Limpopo, the Waterberg District is the ideal getaway where the weary traveler can relax and revel in the great natural beauty of the bushveld savanna and its rich wildlife heritage. |
