The township lies at the foot of Schwanberg between the Main valley surrounded by vineyards and age old towns and the Steigerwald, a mountainous forest to the east. It was here, that the first Silvaner-vine has been planted in 1692. Narrow cobbled streets and skew timber houses are enclosed by a mighty town wall.
The countless wine feasts are held in front of the baroque guildhall. Iphofen is almost as well preserved as Rothenburg, but less well known and, thus, less touristy. Many hiking trails lead into the Steigerwald-mountains. |
