This park, formerly known as the Kalahari Gemsbok Park, extends into Botswana and has an area of over 3,6 million hectare. It is one of the few extended areas in the world that have been preserved in their pristine state. This allows big herds of game to roam freely. Some of the big animals found here are the Kalahari lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog and jackal, and no less than 215 bird species have been documented.
Temperatures in summer often exceed 40° and fall below 0° in winter. After occasional rains, dust clears and breath-taking color combinations of red dunes, green acacia trees and deep blue skies can be enjoyed. |
