The Madikwe Game Reserve is situated on the border of South Africa and Botswana. Bush land and typical Kalahari vegetation meet here, resulting in a great variety of mammals and bird species. The reserve has the so-called big 5 (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo), as well as the rare wild dog, giraffe and a large variety of antelope.
This premier 75,000 hectare game reserve situated in the North West Province of South Africa was originally established in 1991 to restore and return the land to its former natural environment.
A unique partnership between the state, local communities and private enterprise has transformed this land by way of the largest, phased game translocation operation ever undertaken worldwide; “Operation Phoenix” has been an astounding success . |
