A dramatic landmark of the 55,000kmē Pilanesberg National Park in the North West Province is a volcano that peaks 600m above the rest of the countryside. This is one of the youngest state owned nature reserves in Africa, but is one of the more important.
The big five are to be found in the park. The vegetation is twofold, the Kalahari Karoo bush in the west meets the Bushveld of the east. The variety of the vegetation played a part in the fact that most game species were able to thrive after their reintroduction into the park at its inception in the late 20th century. |
