The Waterfront and Table Mountain		The city of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula alone warrant a trip to South Africa. It is the oldest city in South Africa, commander Jan van Riebeek having landed at Cape Town in 1652. From there the Boers migrated further into the country. In 1814 the Dutch East India Company ceded the land to the British Crown. The British influence increased from then on, and today Cape Town is probably the most liberal city in South Africa. This is where the abolishment of apartheid began. You will probably not find a more beautiful setting for any city in the world. Overlooking the city is Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain often covered with a tablecloth of clouds. To the east the vineyards produce wines of world-class quality, and at the southern point, known as the Cape of Good Hope, a nature conservation area protects the fauna and flora. There one can take secluded walking trails which provide a view of both oceans. Bathers are advised to swim in the warmer waters of the Mozambique current on the eastern side, which is approximately 2° warmer than the Atlantic Ocean with its current stemming from the Antarctic.

3rd day: Winelands-Paarl

		From Cape of Good Hope to the winelands Distance: 60 km Time: 0:40 h

		Accommodation: Bartholomeus Klip Bartholomeus Klip is unique. The small hotel with only five guestrooms is the original homestead on a large private estate which is both a working wheat and sheep farm and a nature reserve with a spectacular mountain backdrop. In this unexplored region only an hour's drive from Cape Town's international airport, you can experience the peaceful life of rural South Africa with its clean, crisp air and star-filled night skies. Bartholomeus Klip's 10,000 acre fynbos nature reserve is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the world's smallest reserve, but the richest in species for its size. Guests can walk or hike in the reserve, ride mountain bikes through the wheat fields, go windsurfing, bird-watching or boating on the dam or inspect the farming operations. Beautiful landscapes with fertile winelands		The Cape Winelands extend from Paarl through Stellenbosch to Franschhoek and largely produce white wines of world-class quality. Wine has been produced there since the middle of the 17th century when the first settlers, mainly French and German-speaking farmers, moved to the area. The vineyards are cultivated in rich valleys instead of on steep slopes, as is customary in other countries. Wine-tasting is offered at most wine farms. In addition to the world-class wines, the spectacular landscapes make a visit to the Winelands a rewarding experience.

5th day: Oudtshoorn

		The R62 and Klein Karoo Distance: 400 km Time: 5:00 h

On a farm in the Little Karoo		Accommodation: Altes Landhaus The guesthouse is located in the Schoemanshoek valley, on the road leading to the Cango Caves and approximately 12km outside of Oudtshoorn. The Cape-Dutch style house has a salt water swimming pool in the garden. Centre of ostrich farming in South Africa		Oudtshoorn is best known for ostrich farming, which became famous at the close of the 19th century as feathers became fashionable in Europe. To this day Oudtshoorn is a market leader in ostrich farming on account of the dry climate of the Little Karoo. Many farmers offer tourists guided tours, including a ride on an ostrich. Another popular activity is a visit to the Cango Caves, a group of limestone caves containing countless stalactite formations. They were discovered in prehistoric times and were partially inhabited by the San (Bushman) people, who painted pictures of animals on the walls. To the north, a spectacular mountain pass through the Swartberg mountain range offers magnificent views of the Karoo landscape.

6th day: Garden Route

		To the golfing mecca of the Garden Route  Distance: 60 km Time: 0:45 h

Outeniqua Choo-choo		The coastal area between Swellendam and Humansdorp is known as the Garden Route. It is characterised by its picturesque coves, secluded beaches, steep cliffs and indigenous forests. Just inland, high mountain ranges cause precipitation of up to 2,500mm a year. Behind the mountains, the rainfall quickly diminishes to around 250mm per year. Despite this precipitation, one cannot say that the Garden Route lies in a high rainfall area. Rain showers are brief but intense and occur mostly at night. The name of this area originates from the first inhabitants, who migrated to this area and thought they had found the Garden of Eden. The Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park must be the highlight of the area, consisting of untouched forest and coastal areas through which beautiful hiking trails meander.

8th day: Caledon

		The Overberg Distance: 320 km Time: 3:20 h

9th day: Hermanus

Whale watchers paradise		Hermanus is a beautiful little fishing village between Cape Town and Cape Agulhas, the southern most point of Africa.
