On the south-eastern side of Table Mountain we find the southern suburbs of Cape Town and the Cape Winelands. Constantia is the birthplace of the wine farming industry in South Africa in the Constantia valley. As you drive through the beautiful historical valley it is no wonder the first Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, chose this location for his farm Constantia in 1685. There are also other Wine farms in the area which can be visited.
Other attractions in the area are amongst many others the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens with over 5000 plant species and a perfect location to take walks or have a picnic. Also Muizenburg with its bathing beaches in the warmer eastern waters and the Zandvlei Bird sanctuary a water lagoon in Muizenburg (there are also others in this area). There are many opportunities for walking and hiking as well, and the southern suburbs are an ideal springboard to visit the many attractions, restaurants and towns along the False Bay. Ask your guest house for advice. |
