The port town lies at the foot of the Pigno Massif. Being the largest port of the island it is also the economic center of Corsica. Bastia is the starting point for many tourists but only few give the city the deserved attention. Barely influenced by tourism the town has lots of Mediterranean flair with its citadel and the old houses around the lively marina. Bastia's center of life is the Place Saint-Nicolas opposite the ferry port which was created in the 19th century.
