The “Long Island” is one of the East Frisian Islands in northwest Germany. It has a stretched shape, is 20 square kilometers in size and is located four kilometers off the shore. A ferry travels from Bensersiel to the car-free island's landing stage. From here there is a little train which runs into town every six minutes. A healthy climate, the long sandy beaches and the dunes make the island a popular tourist destination. From the 21 meter high Melkhörndüne one has a beautiful view of the salt marshes and bird sanctuaries.
