Franconian Three River Town

The “Franconian Three River Town” lies at the mouth of the Franconian Saale and Sinn into the Main and probably originated in the early Middle Ages from a fishing settlement. High above Gemünden lies the ruin of the Scherenburg Castle on a promontory between Main and Saale. It was built in the 13th century by the counts of Rieneck and was inhabited until the 18th century. Worth seeing is also the Hutten Castle from 1711, where  the Counts of Hutten have left their coat of arms on the portal.
