Germany Tour: Amy Munroe

Thanks for a great trip.

Negatives first:

-Weather the last 4-5 days-- RAIN (downpours! not just drizzle! for much of each day-- didn't see one mountain in the Alps or see much of the Black Forest-- driving in clouds most of the days)!

-The location of the hotel in Munich-- too far out of the city center for us-- sort of a pain for sightseeing. The rest of the hotels were great.

-The cost of things (with the US dollar doing so poorly)!

But everything else was wonderful. We loved the castle-- the kids couldn't get enough of climbing towers, running around ruins, taking tours of castles. And we loved the medeival cities and streets and buildings! We also loved the pedestrian only streets of shopping in most towns/cities.

Flights went smoothly--

Hotel, on the Rhine (castle) was wonderful! The best! We loved the Rhine area-- took a great boat cruise, did the ski lift, etc.-- weather was beautiful that day and so many castles and ruins! Went to big castle ruin in St Goar. Loved walking around the towns.

We loved Cologne and the hotel-- so convenient-- had a great tour of the Cathedral, went up the Cathedral tower, to the Chocolate museum, and loved walking around.

The third hotel was nice and we loved Marberg-- beautiful old city and castle! Nice dinner at the hotel.

LOVED Rothenburg and hotel was in a great location-- so pretty and fun to explore the city-- went to torture museum and on the night watchman's tour (fun), walked along the old city walls, etc., etc..

Didn't like location of Munich hotel but the woman there was helpful (we had tons of questions, had to do laundry, etc., etc.)-- We did visit Daucha on way into city (very moving). Saw Nymphenburg Schloss (beautiful and nice gardens to walk around) and city center the next day.

Liked Neuschwanstein but overcrowded with tourists-- long lines and wait. Liked the hotel but it poured rain so hard that we never saw a mountain and couldn't even walk around the town of Hindelang.

The hotel in the Black Forest was nice-- our two best dinners were there. The one full day we had in the Black Forest, we went to a clock museum, then Titisee (highest waterfall and bought a cuckoo clock), then thermal baths in a small town (recommended by the hotel). Raining hard on and off, so no hikes or walks.

LOVED Heidelberg and that hotel was in a wonderful location-- so convenient-- did castle tour, walked across the river, walked all over the old city area. Nice dinner at the hotel.

Flights home were fine.

Your driving time estimates were all helpful and either accurate or too long (which was good-- we liked arriving before expected).

Rental mini-van was perfect-- not too big but lots of room for luggage.

Overall, it was a great trip. Thanks for your help.
