Germany Tour: Janice Purssell

On the whole the trip was very good – not quite up to the standard or interest as Italy last year. The last two hotels/schloss were wonderful (would have liked 2 nights at the last one instead of 1 as there was lots to do there). The room was superior with a fabulous view of the river. Bed & Breakfast in Cologne was super – very difficult to find though our taxi driver had to use our mobile to ring. Michael was so eager to please (giving us all maps and ideas for restaurants) and his breakfast was magnificent. Rothenburg hotel okay – not terribly welcoming and food mediocre. The town however was lovely. Augsburg hotel staff were fabulous – they even printed off some boarding passes for our flight home – food was great. Unfortunately, they gave us a room on the front of the hotel and the trams ran all night and were very noisy. We went by train to Munich which was very easy. 2 nights would probably been enough. Falkenstein hotel was not up to your standard – no reception desk; staff unhelpful (not sure if that was because we were the only English!!); food okay but very expensive. 1 night would have been ideal. Lake Constance – hotel lovely but our room was very small (with the handwash basin actually in the room as the toilet/shower were miniscule) and didn't have a lake view. Breakfast was gorgeous. Freiburg hotel was very central and staff very helpful; breakfast good. So on the whole would give the holiday 8/10.
