At the end of the World: Port of Harris

At the end of the World: Port of Harris

Sheep, wind and stones

Harris is the southern part of the main island of Lewis. The largest city, Tarbert, has 500 inhabitants and is also the local port. From the highest mountain, the Clisham (800 m), on a clear day one can see the Scottish mainland. Here is where the Gulf Stream ends, so in summer one can swim in the picturesque bays. The island is famous for the hand woven Harris tweed. At its southern end stands a church from the 15th century, which is worth a visit along with the surrounding graves.
