Sandy beaches, mild climate, long history: Isles of Scilly
The archipelago 50 km off the coast of Cornwall consists of 140 islands, of which six are inhabited. In the past the name caused nightmares among the seaman because of the countless shipwrecks, today Scilly stands for an almost subtropical holiday paradise with untouched nature, white sandy beaches and bizarre granite formations. Despite its remoteness, monumental grave stones from the Stone Age, the ruins of a monastery with Irish origin and houses that are under water bear witness to a long history.
