Italy Tour: Karen Phillips

We were really happy with all aspects of the organisation of our tour. Every detail was attended to with great care. When we arrived in Sicily we found the AVIS car rental people a little offhand.

Our first hotel, in Siracusa, was wonderful. Set in lemon groves with friendly helpful staff and excellent food. From here we moved on to Agrigento. This was also a lovely hotel with great views over the area from the higher rooms. Next we went across country to Camporeale. We were a bit unfortunate to be there on Easter Sunday as there were no local restaurants open and food was not available at the hotel. We had to find snacks at the local tobacconist store which was the only place we could find open!

Next day we went onto Scopella near Erice. This was a lovely little hotel with an excellent evening meal served by the family. It was Easter Monday when we were here, and very busy in the village. Consequently we did have to wait a while to be able to bring our car up to the hotel to get our luggage – this wasn't too much of a problem though.

Next day we went across the north coast road via Cefalu to Tortorici where we had a very warm welcome from the most obliging staff. We had a lovely large room with 4 poster bed and were amazed at how quiet the place was, so high in the mountains. The meal was substantial here, far more than we could eat, with unlimited wine and again really helpful staff.

Our final hotel, Villa Sonia, was so far up from Taormina we thought we would be on top of the world. The journey was well worth it though, as our room had spectacular views of Mt Etna. again this was a lovely hotel and we ate in the village that night. Castelmona has quite a selection of restaurants and shops and is well worth a visit just for the view.
We had a super holiday, well planned by Umfulana, and would not hesitate to recommend their services. I'm sure we will book a similar tour in the future.

Thank you.
