Italy Tour: Dana Shirreffs

Thank you for helping us plan a wonderful trip

Thank you for helping us plan a wonderful trip! We had a fantastic time, overall, and have some specific feedback about each place we stopped.
Venice – the hotel and location were great, very comfortable and helpful. The breakfast was not good, but that was OK because we were happy to stroll around the city and eat. We were pleased with the size of the room and the shower was fantastic. The bed was hard as a rock and the pillows were extremely thin so overall sleeping was not comfortable, but we loved Venice and hope to go back one day!
Car rental – very easy and convenient. No complaint here!
Cinque Terre – we LOVED the hotel! It was beautiful, historical, comfortable, and the people working there, specifically Suzanna, were fantastic. We enjoyed visiting the five towns and thought the location was very convenient to the train. The breakfast was delicious and the housekeeping was beyond any expectations. Our one complaint was that the entire area was very deserted at this time of year. The whole beach and road were under construction and many restaurants were closed until May. We drove into Santa Margarita one night and that was also deserted. Overall, we felt a little isolated and that there were not good dining options because of the off-season. We feel like we would have had a better experience here if it was a little closer to the season.
Lucca – the bed and breakfast was beautiful. Our room was tiny, barely enough room for the two of us and our bags. Breakfast was terrible. When we arrived at breakfast at 9:30 there was nothing left and the hotel informed us that they would not be bringing out any more food. Breakfast was supposed to be served until 10:30 so this was very surprising and disappointing. Most vineyards and restaurants in this area were also closed because of the off season. Overall, we wished we had not stopped here and went straight to Florence for an extra night.
Florence – what a FANTASTIC place! We loved Florence so much and wished we had more time here. The hotel was nice, comfortable, and very quiet. We wished it was a few blocks closer to the center of the city.
Overall, we had a lovely trip. We wished we had done a little more research ourselves to discover that Cinque Terre and Lucca would be so deserted in the off season, to the point where most places were closed, but we loved the cities.
Thank you, we hope this is helpful!
